Final Idea

im really interested in greek/roman mythology. So, for my final i was thinking about creating a series of portraits, each representing a sort of "modernized" version of the most famous greek stories, such as Pandoras box, the story of Narcissus, Apollo and Daphne.. just a few ideas. id love any feedback you guys have. thanks!

also, heres a photographer i found yesterday. some of his stuff is pretty cool i think.

  1. Start researching each myth to include historical and contemporary visual displace [paintings, photos, films...] Sketch each of your ideas out and from there gather the materials you need and cast the model for each. I feel fashion is going to play a large role in your images so be prepared for the level of styling that each image will require. Also decide on the consistent scale and POV for each image. These image truly need to feel cohesive in all aspects of styling. Keep the lighting simple, and very soft/low lighting ratio[1:2 or or less]... the octabank comes to mind.

  2. i definitely agree with the fashion thought. This is a really cool idea and you could have a lot of fun with the wardrobe selections. I think the styling is an extremely important part of making the images convincing. Pick the greek stories that are your favorite! It will be more fun that way rather then picking ones that seem to be easier to be done. =]

  3. I think this is really interesting. It reminded me of the shot that they did on America's Next Top Model like 2 years ago or something where they recreated great paintings like the Venus in the clamshell and such. I feel that this would really turn out to be a fun shoot to do. But yeah, fashion, hair and make-up will be really important for the shoot. Im excited to see the way these turn out!

  4. This idea could turn out really cool, but you definitely need to do your research on clothes, hair, and make-up ect. It could be cool to treat these like fashion portraits and really focus on props and clothing. Don't hold back, mythology gets pretty rich.
